Jesus is Lord and Savior
Saved
According to Christian doctrine, when an individual accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior and is "saved," they receive several spiritual gifts as outlined in the Bible. These gifts are believed to be bestowed upon believers by the Holy Spirit. While different denominations may interpret and emphasize these gifts differently, some of the ordinary gifts associated with salvation include:
1. Eternal Life
One of the central promises of salvation is eternal life with God in heaven. This gift is often referred to as the "gift of God" or "eternal life", is mentioned in various passages throughout the New Testament, John 3:16 and Romans 6:23.
2. Forgiveness of Sins
Through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, believers receive forgiveness for their sins. This forgiveness is a foundational aspect of salvation and is described in passages like Ephesians 1:7 and Colossians 1:14.
3. Justification
Believers are justified before God, meaning they are declared righteous and acquitted of their sins. This gift of justification is received by faith in Jesus Christ and is emphasized in passages like Romans 3:24 and Romans 5:1.
4. Adoption as Children of God
Those who are saved are adopted into the family of God and become His children. This adoption grants believers the privilege of calling God their Father and is described in passages like Galatians 4:4-7 and Romans 8:15-17.
5. Holy Spirit
Believers receive the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, who empowers, guides, and comforts them in their Christian walk. This gift is often associated with the baptism of the Holy Spirit and is mentioned in passages like Acts 2:38 and Ephesians 1:13-14.
6. Spiritual Gifts
The Holy Spirit bestows various spiritual gifts upon believers for the edification of the church and the advancement of God's kingdom. These gifts may include abilities such as prophecy, teaching, healing, serving, and speaking in tongues, among others. They are described in passages like 1 Corinthians 12 and Romans 12.
7. Fruit of the Spirit
Believers exhibit the fruit of the Spirit, which includes qualities such as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These attributes are cultivated in the lives of believers by the Holy Spirit and are described in Galatians 5:22-23.
